Building quantum systems atom by atom

Welcome to our website! We are a new research group based in Vienna, part of the Institute for Atomic and Subatomic Physics at TU Wien and the excellence cluster quantA. In our research, we study quantum systems in settings of individually controlled ultracold atoms for applications in many-body physics, quantum computing, and quantum information processing.

Cavity Lab

In our cavity Lab, we study cavity electrodynamics using an array of Rubidium atoms trapped in optical tweezers and coupled to a high-finesse micro-cavity.

Our setup allows us to engineer, non-local interactions between atoms with programmable connectivity, mediated by the strong coupling (C=80) to the cavity mode. Additionally, the state of each atom can be prepared, evolved, and read out with high fidelity.

This provides us with a flexible and versatile quantum processor for quantum simulation, computation, and communication experiments.

Lithium Lab

In our Lithium Lab, we study quantum simulation with programmable optical lattices.

Optical lattices are one of the most powerful platforms for quantum processors, particularly for quantum simulations. Paired with microscopic tools, this setup realizes coherent many-body systems with single-particle control and readout - unparalleled in size and scalability.

With this experiment we want to combine the tools from optical lattices and optical tweezers to create a versatile system, where arbitrary initial states can be prepared, evolved within a programmable optical lattice, and read out with single-atom resolution.
